A high-profile delegation from the US visited Carbfix, Climeworks, and ON Power on July 15th, 2023. Senators Brian Schatz, Lisa Murkowski, Michael Bennet, Tina Smith, Peter Welch, and their esteemed colleagues sought to gain firsthand insights into Iceland's groundbreaking initiatives during their visit to the renowned Carbfix, Climeworks, and ON Power facilities.

The stage was set for an immersive experience, beginning at the Hellisheiði Geothermal Exhibition. Welcoming the senators were officials from ON Power and Climeworks, along with Kristinn Ingi Lárusson, head of business development at Carbfix.

The delegation was escorted to the first floor, where a series of insightful presentations awaited. Donning Carbfix vests and helmets, the delegation proceeded to the ground floor lobby, where they were brought to the Climeworks direct air capture plant, Orca and the Carbfix CO₂ injection site. Here, the senators observed with awe as the captured CO₂ was transformed into stable mineral formations deep within the Earth.

The visit ended, leaving the senators profoundly inspired by Iceland's commitment to sustainable energy solutions. As they bid farewell to the Carbfix and Climeworks sites, the delegation carried back a wealth of knowledge and an enhanced understanding of the potential these innovations hold for addressing the pressing challenges of climate change.
